Checon Establishes New Powder Metal Contacts Operation

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA, AUGUST 15, 2016: Checon Corporation, a leading manufacturer of electrical contacts and contact materials, is pleased to announce the establishment of a new advanced production facility in Kersey, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the development and manufacture of powder metallurgical contacts. The new entity will operate under the name Checon PMC (Powder Metal Contacts) and will function as a satellite engineering, production, and sales team to Checon’s main operations, headquartered in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Checon PMC will manufacture powder metal electrical contacts typically composed of Silver Tungsten, Silver Tungsten Carbide, Silver Graphite, or Copper Tungsten composite materials. While other combinations are also available, these materials are most commonly used by OEM manufacturers of circuit breakers and industrial switches. In addition, the facility will produce many types of electrical brushes for the specialty motor and slip ring industries.

“Checon has a history of supplying electrical contacts and materials to many of the same customers who will be served by PMC,” said Allen Conaway, Checon Corporation President and CEO. “A primary source of Silver Cadmium Oxide and Silver Tin Oxide materials to leading OEM industrial control, switch, and circuit breaker suppliers, we have long considered entering the “other side” of the contact market in response to customer demand for a more streamlined supply channel.   With so many changes in the industry, now seemed like the right time to do it,” he added.

Managing the Kersey facility will be Marshal Aloi, a manufacturing and production process expert with over 20 years of experience engineering and manufacturing electrical contacts. He is joined by Frank Schaer, a seasoned engineering and business professional who will lead Checon PMC’s quality and engineering programs; and Joe Carothers, who has come on as Director of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Carothers has over 35 years serving the industry in various sales and marketing positions. The company expects to be ISO certified by December of this year.

Checon Corporation, based in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, is a manufacturer of electrical contacts and contact materials for a broad range of applications including industrial control, HVAC, and automotive and appliance switches. Founded in 1960, Checon is a privately owned company.
