Toplay
Short URL:http://bit.ly/a1jHV2Toplay remains one of the
most effective manufacturing methods for medium to high power devices such as contactors and industrial controls. This production method, utilizing in-line ultrasonic scanning to ensure consistency of the joint, is fast and accurate, producing a very thin braze interface to aid electrical and thermal conduction. Where parts are subjected to high mechanical loads, the Toplay process allows significant temper to be introduced into the assembly. Care and attention paid to the tooling design allows efficient material utilization and the improved thermal characteristics can lead to precious metal savings when compared to individually brazed assemblies.
In comparison to Tip brazing techniques, Toplay produces a more complete bond – of known quality, with a thinner bond interface and significantly faster rates of assembly.
| Toplay | Tip Brazing | |
|---|---|---|
| Braze Area Minimum | 80% | 75% |
| Braze Area Normal Output | 90 - 100% | 85 - 90% |
| Bond Monitoring | 100% inspection and control | Sampling |
| Typical Braze Thickness | .001 - .0015" | .0025 - .004" |
| Typical Brazing Speed | 100 - 500 per MINUTE | 100 - 500 per HOUR |
