Checon Corporation announced its acquisition of Engineered Metals of North Kingston, RI
North Attleboro, MA – September 23, 2011 – Checon Corporation announced its acquisition of Engineered Metals of North Kingston, RI, a manufacturer of speciality clad materials and a key supplier in the area of high quality clad and rolled products used in many of Checon’s electrical contact assemblies. The move was established to optimize product flow and expand Checon’s overall capacity of clad materials in response to increased customer demand and the implementation of a more efficient delivery system.
As a supplier of silver based materials used by the electrical contact industry, the addition of clad materials will allow Checon to expand its product offering to the industry, as well as streamline customer sourcing and fortify engineering and quality documentation. In addition to the inlayed stripes and multi-layered base metals Engineered Metals has supplied to Checon in the past, Checon is now positioned to offer contact materials with braze backing, and materials systems used in contact welding of tapes and buttons. Engineered Metals was also a service provider of precision rolling, slitting and other mill services, who’s customers Checon intends to continue to service and expand.
Jeffrey Gardener, former president of Engineered Metals, has joined Checon as its new Vice President of Engineering. Over the past several years, Checon has expanded it’s engineering resources to fortify its commitment to its customers through engineered fabrication solutions and material innovation. “Jeff represents a tremendous addition to Checon’s management group, with substantial experience in speciality clad materials elsewhere in the industry, ” said Allen Conaway, Checon’s president and CEO. “He will enhance Checon’s knowledge base and fit in well with our culture of entrepreneurism and innovation.”
Jeff’s former partner, John Cabral, has also joined Checon to manage its new Clad and Rolled Products Group. “John too has significant experience in the industry and we are very excited that he will be joining us to run this strategic new department, ” said Conaway. In addition to John’s manufacturing background, he also has been responsible for strategic planing and execution of relocating manufacturing facilities. “We will rely on his knowledge to assure a smooth transition of manufacturing from RI to North Attleboro this fall.”
